Chadwick Boseman, who played T’challa in the record breaking film, Black Panther, has revealed how he was kicked off the cast of Soap Opera long before he played the iconic character he is now known for.
While speaking at the Commencement at his Alma Mater, Howard University, Boseman said that he had raised a number of questions on the character he was portraying.
Boseman, who graduated from the Washington DC University in 2002 added that he was in the show for a total of three days before he ‘let go.’ He revealed that what he thought was going to be an improvement in the character became the act that got him fired.
“Forget their stories….I can tell my own stories. Sometimes you need to be knocked down before you can figure out what your fight is and how you need to fight it. When I challenged the system that would relegate us to victims and stereotypes with no clear historical backgrounds, no hopes or talents, when I questioned that method of portrayal, a different path opened up for me – a path to my destiny. When God has something for you, it doesn’t matter who stands against it,” he said.
