The Federal High Court in Wawa Cantonment, Kainji, Niger State, on Tuesday sentenced a Commander of the Boko Haram group, Abba Umar, to 60 years in imprisonment, for various terrorist acts.
Umar is among the over 40 Boko Haram suspects convicted on Tuesday by the four Courts sitting in Wawa Cantonment to fast-track the trials of over 1,000 suspects held in various detention facilities in the Cantonment.
According to Punch, at least 10 persons including 18-year-old Nathaniel Obidah were either discharged or acquitted or had their cases struck out for lack of evidence.
It was reported that the 22-year-old Umar was not remorseful throughout the proceedings.
He rather maintained that he would go back to Sambisa forest to continue with the terrorist acts if he was ever released.
The trial judge said that though the charges preferred against Umar attracts death penalty but decided to hand him a lesser sentence after taking into consideration the age of the convict and the fact that he must have been exposed to “excessive and consistence religious indoctrination” which made him to be easily pliable.
“The Judge added, “For count 3, I sentence him to 60 years imprisonment.
“I would have been more merciful but was dissuaded by the convict’s insistence that he would return back to terrorist activities which constitute a danger to the society and for which he was apprehended.
Umar informed that he married two wives in Sambisa and as a Commander, he had over 100 lieutenants under him.

“You know a rich man can be poor in knowledge and is not something people cannot have.
“Knowledge or let me say commonsense is something really hard to acquire. If he’s poor in commonsense, then its a NO, but he is poor in money, it doesn’t mean he can’t be rich in money.
“So, of course I can marry a poor man if he is very rich in every other thing,” She quips.

She also said that relationship between partners should be based on love and friendship rather than money and sex.
“If the partners are not in it for a long term relationship, then the goal is a bit dicey. If it’s not for the long term, many people will choose sex and money because it’s temporal.
“But if it’s for the long term and you are planning to get married to this person, then love is the most important thing because at the end of the day when every thing fades, the only thing you will have left is the love and friendship you started with. I learnt that from my parents. At the end of the day, love fades but friendship remains.” She said.

In what appears to be a dramatic visit, Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, on Tuesday morning stormed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) office in Benue State, with anti-snake venom and snake charmers.
It be recalled that the media had earlier reported the claim by a JAMB staff that mysterious snake swallowed a whooping sum of N36 Million in her custody.
The Senator told the JAMB Registrar, Isaq Oloyede, in laughter that his visit was to ascertain the truth behind the snake claim, as he presented packs of anti-snake venom and offered the services of two snake charmers to fish out the snake that swallowed the whooping sum of N36 Million.
“The reason for my presence is in response that a snake swallowed about N36 million. It is my concern that such a huge amount of money is reported to have been swallowed by a snake
“I believe the contribution I can make is to bring snake charmers from my constituency to the JAMB office to help them fish out the snake or weed out snake from their premises.
